AI Photobooth vs Activation King: The 2026 Head-to-Head, Plan, Credits and Features

AI Photobooth··Updated September 23, 2026·8 min read

Updated September 2026. Activation King’s numbers come from its public pricing page and its App Store listing; ours from our pricing page. Where Activation King shows a promo price, both the promo and the regular price are given.

Activation King is the most-cited alternative when operators ask us “why you and not them?”, and it deserves the question: 12 booth modes, four operating systems, the cheapest credit in the market. This is the side-by-side, with the arithmetic both marketing pages leave out. The two platforms differ on three things: what the plan includes, what one photo costs, and what guests can do live.

Difference 1: 300 AI photos included vs 0

AI Photobooth Pro is €99 a month with 300 AI photos included, 5 booths, every AI feature, and photo 301 at €0.33. Prefer to pay once? Starter €19 (50 credits), Pro €99 (200 credits), Enterprise €799 (1,600 credits). Free account with 3 AI photos, no card, no watermark.

Activation King’s Starter is $49 a month promo ($69 regular) and has no AI. AI needs Pro AI at $79 promo ($99 regular) or Ultimate AI at $149 promo ($199 regular), 2 devices each. No plan includes any credits. Credits cost $25 per 1,000, and the 14-day trial gives 100 credits with a watermark.

So the monthly fee at Activation King buys the right to buy photos. At AI Photobooth it buys the photos.

Difference 2: 1 credit per photo vs 6 to 42

This is the difference operators discover after they commit, so read it before.

At AI Photobooth, Live Edit, Face Swap and Style Transfer cost 1 credit whatever the model: Google Nano Banana, Nano Banana Pro or OpenAI GPT Image 2.5, at 1K or 2K. Virtual try-on is 3 credits. A singing photo is 1 credit for the photo plus 6 for the video. That is the entire pricing model, and it is on the pricing page before you sign up.

At Activation King, a credit is $0.025 and a photo costs, per the September 2026 pricing page: face swap 1 credit, background removal 1, an AI effect 6 on the original Nano Banana, 10 on Nano Banana 2 at 1K, 24 at 4K, 42 on Nano Banana Pro at 4K, and an AI video 30 to 60. So one photo costs $0.025 to $1.05 depending on which button the guest pressed, and the price changes each time a model is added.

The 300-photo month, all-in:

AI Photobooth Activation King, current model at 1K Activation King, Nano Banana Pro at 4K
Plan €99 $79 promo / $99 regular $79 promo / $99 regular
Credits for 300 photos 0, included 3,000 credits, $75 12,600 credits, $315
Total €99 $154 to $174 $394 to $414
Photo 301 €0.33 $0.25 $1.05

Face swap is the exception: at 1 credit per face, an event that only runs face swap is cheaper on Activation King. The moment guests use an effect on a current model, the price per photo is 10 to 42 times higher than the credit price on the sticker.

Difference 3: live AI vs rendered AI

Both platforms do face swap, custom prompts, AI effects and AI video from a photo. Beyond that the lists diverge.

AI Photobooth adds real-time video restyle (the booth mirror restyles the live camera feed), real-time video virtual try-on at 720p, photo try-on from your own clothing catalog, product placement (the sponsor’s can or bag in the guest’s hand, exact logo), singing photos (the AI photo sings the brand jingle), free Snapchat filters, and touchless hand-tracking on Windows. See real-time AI video booths and product placement at events.

Activation King adds booth modes: 360, GlamBot-style slow motion, mirror, GIF and boomerang, green screen, video booth, mosaic wall, drawing screen, plus Stripe Terminal tap-to-pay and remote printing. As of September 2026 it has no real-time video, no try-on, no product placement and no singing photos.

If your clients are brands and agencies, the first list is what you pitch. If you rent 360 and mirror setups, the second list is your inventory.

Where Activation King genuinely wins

  • Booth modes. Nobody bundles 12 in one app. Rental operators with 360 platforms, mirrors and a GlamBot arm get one subscription for all of it.
  • Mac. We run on Windows, Android and iPad; Activation King adds macOS.
  • Face swap at 1 credit for a face-swap-only event.
  • Credits never expire.
  • Tap-to-pay at the booth through Stripe Terminal.

If that describes your business, pick Activation King, and budget it at $79 to $99 a month plus $0.025 to $1.05 per photo, not at the $49 shown next to the AI product in its own ranking. We checked that ranking line by line in our Activation King review.

Where AI Photobooth wins, in one paragraph

The photos are in the price, 300 a month, and photo 301 costs €0.33 on any model. A 300-photo event is €99 before you have chosen a single style, so the quote is fixed before the event. Guests get try-on, product placement, real-time video and singing photos that no other platform ships, in 19 languages, on the hardware you already own. The invoice is an EU invoice and the delivered file carries the AI-use disclosure the EU AI Act asks for. And the free account produces real, unwatermarked photos, so the test is a test.

Frequently asked questions

Is AI Photobooth cheaper than Activation King?

For a face-swap-only event a month, no. For 300 AI photos a month on a current model, yes: €99 all-in against $154 to $414. The break-even is around 115 AI photos a month.

Does Activation King include AI credits?

No. Every plan includes 0 credits; the trial gives 100 watermarked credits once. AI Photobooth Pro includes 300 photos every month.

Does Activation King have real-time AI video or virtual try-on?

Not as of September 2026. Its AI video is a rendered clip delivered after the photo. AI Photobooth offers real-time video restyle and real-time video try-on at 720p, plus photo try-on.

Which is better for EU events?

AI Photobooth issues EU invoices, hosts in the EU, embeds the AI-use disclosure in the delivered file and runs the booth in 19 languages. Activation King’s checkout showed no VAT line for an EU address in our test.

Can I try both before choosing?

Yes. AI Photobooth: free account, 3 AI photos, no card, no watermark, or €19 once for 50 credits. Activation King: 14 days, 100 credits, watermarked. Run the same test photos through both; the render on real faces decides.
